Our Background
The Public Officers’ Defined Contribution Pension Fund, “The Fund”, was established by the promulgation of the Public Officers’ Defined Contribution Pension Fund Act 8 of 2008. The aim of the Fund is to deliver pension benefits to contributing members holding public office on a permanent and pensionable basis in the Government of Lesotho, and for related matters.
The Fund provides benefits upon your departure from government employment, whether due to termination, resignation, retrenchment, retirement, disability, or in the unfortunate event of your passing. The Fund also provides for additional assurance benefits that are payable in the event of death or disability.
How does The Fund work?
The fund operates similarly to a savings account. Every month, both you and your employer contribute money to your Fund account.
Your account is divided into two parts: your member portion and your employer portion. Your contributions are deposited directly into your member portion, while your employer's contributions on your behalf go into your employer portion.
The money is invested strategically to yield returns. The returns generated are added directly to your member portion, along with the employer's portion in the form of interest.
The better the investments perform, the more you will eventually receive from the fund. However, it's important to note that there is always a risk that investments may incur losses, potentially resulting in lower interest gains. The combined amounts in your member and employer portions constitute your fund credit.
Your eventual retirement benefits will depend on the size of your fund credit, which, in turn, is influenced by the total contributions made to the fund and the performance of investments. This type of fund is commonly referred to as a defined contribution pension fund.
